Dr. Joe Vipond: Opening Ceremonies Speaker
Dr. Vipond has been an emergency physician in Calgary for 15 years. He is a member for the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment and is the spokesperson for the Alberta Coal Phase Out movement and the Canadian Coal Phase Out Network.
Dr. Shelby Yamamoto (also doing closing ceremonies)
Dr. Yamamoto is an assistant professor at the University of Alberta’s School of Public Health. Her research interests focus on the cross section of epidemiology and environmental health, specifically the effects of air pollution as an environmental risk factor for disease.
Dr. Donald Spady
Dr. Spady is a pediatrician and adjunct professor at the University of Alberta with an interest in environmental issues, particularly resource depletion and global disintegrity (including climate change) on human health and healthcare delivery. His areas of specific interest relate to the vulnerability of the healthcare system to energy disruption.
Dr. Stefania Bertazzon
Dr. Bertazzon is a professor in the Department of Geology at the University of Calgary and is member of the O’Brien Institute of Public Health at the University of Calgary. Her research interests focus on health geography specifically on the environmental and social determinants of health.
Dr. Mishka Lysak
Dr. Lysak is an associate professor in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. Presently he focuses his teaching, research and community outreach in the areas of climate change and environmental protection, renewable energy and sustainable economies and communities.
